The Reminder Cadence

When you'll hear from us.

90 Days Before
First heads-up. Plenty of time to plan CEUs and budget renewal fees. Includes your state's CEU requirement and a link to SocialWorkU's CEU tracker.
60 Days Before
Mid-cycle check. Have you completed enough CEUs? We send your state's full requirement breakdown plus links to approved CEU providers.
30 Days Before
Action time. Direct link to your state's renewal portal, fee schedule, and a checklist of what you'll need (CEU certificates, fingerprinting if required, etc.).
7 Days Before
Last sprint. If you haven't renewed yet, this is your push. Includes your state's late-fee schedule and lapse consequences.
1 Day Before
Final urgent reminder. Direct portal link. If your license lapses, you'll need to stop billing immediately — we make sure you don't get there.

A lapsed license is a real problem.

You can't bill for services

A lapsed license means you can't legally provide clinical services. Insurance billing must stop immediately. If you're in private practice, that's lost revenue per day until reinstatement.

Late fees compound fast

Most states charge a late fee on top of the renewal fee — often $50–$200. Some require you to retake CEUs or sit for an exam if your lapse extends beyond 30 or 60 days.

Employment risk

Hospitals, agencies, and group practices verify license status routinely. A lapsed license can trigger immediate suspension, removal from clinical schedules, or termination — depending on your contract.

Reputation and disciplinary record

Repeated lapses can show up on your licensing record. Some states require a disciplinary review for extended lapses. None of this is necessary if you renew on time.

Why do you need my license number?
To verify your license against your state board's public records and pull your exact renewal date. License numbers are already public information — every state board publishes them. We use it for verification only and never share it.
Will you send me job postings or marketing emails?
No, unless you opt in. Renewal reminders are renewal reminders. If you want jobs, CEU recommendations, or career resources, you can subscribe separately — but they're never bundled.
What if my license is in multiple states?
Sign up once per state. The form takes 30 seconds and we'll track each license independently with its own renewal cycle.
What about pre-licensure / associate licenses?
Yes — we cover pre-licensure status (LMSW with hours toward LCSW, ASW in California, etc.) and associate licenses in all states that issue them. Select "Pre-licensure / Associate" in the License Level dropdown.
How do I unsubscribe?
One click in the footer of any email. We honor it immediately and your data is removed from our reminder system within 24 hours.
